Booking the Hotel

With a short 24 hour stay in Tokyo, I was considering options using various hotel credit card benefits. I first checked Amex Plat FHR/HC room rates but all the hotels listed were $500+ which was more than I wanted to pay even utilizing the $200 credit. I also considered staying at AC Hotel Ginza with either Marriott points or my 50K Marriott cert for holding the Amex Brilliant card but decided against using either points or the certificate. In the end, I decided to utilize the $300 travel credit with the VentureX card. With a lot of hotel options available, in the end I settled on Hibiya Blossom due to location, cost and the fact that the hotel had a gym.

I directly booked a Superior King bed room on the portal. After taxes and fees the total was just a bit more than $300. The credit was applied a couple days later

The great thing about the Capital One portal is to book independent hotels not part of a chain like this one, plus earning 10X points for the booking.

Location

“THE BLOSSOM HIBIYA†is a brand new top brand hotel of JR Kyushu Hotels, which opened in Hibiya in August 2019. Only a 5-minute walk from Shimbashi Station with at least 4 lines including the most used Yamanote line, the hotel is located on the upper floors of a 27-story skyscraper. All guest rooms are on the 19th floor and above, and you can enjoy a panoramic view of the city from high above.

With a stay at THE BLOSSOM HIBIYA, you’ll be centrally located in Tokyo, within a 5-minute drive of Tokyo Tower and Tokyo Imperial Palace. This hotel is 3 mi (4.9 km) from Tokyo Dome and 5.2 mi (8.3 km) from Tokyo Skytree. Furthermore, it is a 3 minute walk to the outer skirts of Ginza district, and a 5 minute walk to the popular Donki Ginza shop for duty free shopping.

Check-In

The hotel is located on the the upper floors (18th to 27th floors) of a 27-story office building called “Urban Net Uchisaiwaicho Building.†The entrance to the office and hotel are separated on the ground level. The elevator at the ground level will take you to the lobby on the 18th floor.

Walking into the lobby, you are greeted with a beautiful plum tree and sign of the hotel.

The lobby is grand and inviting with high ceilings and open spaces. Large windows provide panoramic views of the city.

The check-in staff was friendly and confirmed my room and reservation made via the Capital One portal. As the room was pre-paid, there were no additional fees and expenses for my stay.

Hibiya Blossom Room

I booked myself into a Superior King room which is on the Shimbashi side, southwest facing. The room is 25 square meters, equivalent to 270 square feet.

Walking into the room, there is a narrow hallway with the bathroom to the right of the entrance. The bathroom had a typical Japanese bidet, sink and enclosed separate area for the shower and tub.

Past the hallway, the room opened up. There was a stylish King bed in the middle of the room with a TV mounted on the wall across from it. Japanese hotels typically provide Pajamas for customers as sleep wear although they aren’t intended to be taken home. There was one nicely folded at the base of the bed.

Next to the bed was a tablet that you could use to control light settings and black-out curtains.

Further along there was a long desk that can be used for work. Underneath the desk area was a mini fridge and mini bar set-up with coffee, tea and water bottles.

On the opposite side of the room was a chair and ottoman with small circular desk.

The view from the window was wonderful. My room was facing south, so I was able to enjoy the view of Tokyo Tower, Toranomon Hills and the skyscrapers of the city.

Dining

The hotel has an all day Japanese dining restaurant called Sotoroku. Inside the restaurant there is also a Japanese sake bar in an open-timbered interior inspired by the traditional Japanese yagura structure. For breakfast, both Western and Japanese style buffet is available for 3,300 yen for adults and 2,200 yen for children. I did not have any meals at the hotel restaurant as my room rate didn’t include pre-paid breakfast.

Facilities and Service

On each floor with guest rooms, there is a coin laundry machine, vending machine and ice machine available.

One of the reasons I chose Blossom Hibiya was that the hotel had a gym which is not common for most Japanese hotels. The gym had a couple basic cardio equipment, gym mats and one weight machine. It was very basic but met my needs to get in some exercise during the trip.

The staff were all polite and pleasant to interact with. With check-out time being relatively early at 11am, I was able to store my luggage at the hotel during the day before picking it up and heading back to the airport that evening for my flight back to the US.

Final Thoughts

I found the Hibiya Blossom hotel to be better than anticipated. The hotel exudes understated luxury. With a convenient location and great views, the hotel was a bargain at $300/night room rate. If utilizing cash credits on credit cards such as the VentureX, I would definitely consider a night here again on a future trip to Tokyo.
